Medical

At McGoey Dermatology we treat all ages, from “birth through death.”

All aspects of dermatology are in fact “medical” as it is important to correctly diagnose a condition before appropriate treatment can take place. A brown spot may be as simple as a sun spot or a non cancerous mole, but could also be more complex such as a pigmentary disorder or a melanoma.  Many people think of hair loss as one condition with one treatment.  There are hundreds of different types and causes of hair loss and in order to treat it appropriately, a correct diagnosis and understanding of the pathophysiology is necessary.

It is important to see a board-certified Dermatologist for skin, hair and nail concerns because if the diagnosis and understanding of underlying pathology is not correct, your treatment may not work and could even cause harm.

For your convenience, we also offer telemedicine services.

This subspecialty involves the study, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of patients with high-risk cutaneous malignancies. One aspect is Mohs micrographic surgery, a specialized technique for treating skin cancers. Another aspect is reconstructive surgery, to repair skin defects after the removal of a tumor. A third aspect incorporates staging and treatment options for patients with cutaneous malignancies and cancer syndromes.

Cosmetic

Did you know that cosmetic treatments are medical procedures? Board certified dermatologists have made the greatest contributions in pioneering some of the most popular cosmetic procedures such as botulinum toxin treatments for fine lines and wrinkles, injectable fillers, and chemical peels.

Dermatologists spend years training and understanding the aging skin, the location of nerves and blood vessels deep to the skin. An understanding of how aging occurs, how that affects the underlying skin layers, fat pads, and subsequent appearance of our skin are all integral components in being able to successfully treat the aging face. Importantly, cosmetic procedures can have serious consequences if not done properly.

Aging is a process and so is anti-aging. Together we will identify a personalized approach to reach your aesthetic goals. At McGoey Dermatology, we believe in safety, expertise, and consistent results.

Understanding Facial Aging
Aging occurs due to many factors. As we get older, our skin becomes thinner and more lax due to decreased collagen and elastic. This combined with decreased ability to retain moisture leads to drooping, wrinkles, and fine lines. We develop dynamic lines and wrinkles due to muscular contraction leading to creasing in our skin. With age, our facial muscles become stronger and our elastic and collagen become weaker. Finally, we develop volume loss from bone changes as well as shrinkage of many of our facial fat pads. However, some of our fat pads actually increase in size which is why it is important to have a thorough understanding of how the face ages in order to address a patient’s concerns.

Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators, such as Botox, are used to address the dynamic lines from muscular contractions. Their effects last around 3 months, but with continued use, the overly active muscles in your face begin to decrease in strength thus leading to longer term effects. Neuromodulators are recommended for people who would like to prevent or treat wrinkles.

Injectable Fillers
Injectable fillers address lost facial volume that occurs with the natural aging process by replacing lost volume and also stimulating collagen growth. The effects of fillers tend to last 12 months but can vary by patient.

Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is performed in the office in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin. Various chemicals penetrate to different layers of the skin and thus vary in how they improve your tone and texture, lighten discoloration, and decrease superficial lines.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
Platelet Rich Plasma in the blood has many growth factors that help heal the body. It can be used to improve wrinkles and to treat hair loss.

Microneedling
Microneedling is used to repair existing wrinkles, decrease pore size, improve the appearance of stretch marks and scars, and increase effectiveness of other topical products.

Medical Grade Skin Care
After discussing your cosmetic concerns with Dr. McGoey, she will recommend a personalized treatment plan with products that have proven scientific efficacy and have been developed in an FDA approved facility. An integrated approach, combining aesthetic procedures and a topical regimen will help achieve and maintain natural, beautiful rejuvenation.

With a Dermatologist recommended skin care routine, products are identified to meet your needs and used in an order that increases efficacy of all products according to their various scientific parameters. Every step matters and how they are performed changes the final results. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetics with bioactive ingredients that have medical benefit. It is important to know that these are not FDA regulated thus must be purchased from a reliable source. Many companies do not spend the time or money to manufacture or package ingredients properly thus rendering them inactive.

Our products are free of parabens, propylene glycol, hormones, and sulfates. They are naturally derived and not tested on animals.  All products are US made.
